John Dean Best, age 78, of Dubuque, Iowa, and formerly of the Lanesboro area passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Dubuque Nursing and Rehabilitation Home in Dubuque.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 10, 2010 at Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. The Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home of Glidden is in charge of arrangements.
A son of John and Louise (Hein) Best, He was born on January 19, 1931 at Carroll County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Grant Township. Mr. Best Graduated from Lohrville High School in 1950. He enlisted in the Navy in November of 1951 and was honorably discharged in November of 1955. He received the Good Conduct and National Defense Service Medals. After his discharge, he moved to Dubuque and was employed at Sargent Engineering Company until his retirement in 1993. He was married to Ruth Finley Keller on May 11, 1957 in Dubuque. Mrs. Best died on February 12, 1984.
Survivors include brothers and sisters and spouses: Bill Best (Audrey) of Ft. Dodge, Patty Addison (Mick) of Lanesboro, David Best (Joyce) of Carroll, Aggie Reed (Dennis) Winterset, Jerry Best (Linda) of Denison, Jim Best (Karen) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Paul Best (Harriett) of Scoial Circle, Georgia; eight nephews; seven nieces; and extended family members and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Louise Best, his wife Ruth, and a nephew David Best.
