Joel Robert Davis, age 54, of rural Coon Rapids, IA, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids with John Kult officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Township Cemetery near Bayard. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where the family will greet friends until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for Joel’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on August 12, 1964 in Pueblo, CO, he was the son of Robert James and Mary Margaret (Haney) Davis. Joel grew up in Pueblo where he graduated from East High School in 1982. He attended Colorado State University in Ft. Collins where he studied Russian History. Following college he managed several Furr’s Cafeterias in various locations. He was married to Debra Lloyd on September 7, 1991. To this union two children were born, Zachariah Robert and Brianna Jo. The family moved to Coon Rapids in 1999 where Joel worked for Midlands Business Equipment for 15 years. He then worked for National Cash Register out of their Dallas, TX, office as a project manager. Following in his father’s footsteps, he became a member of the Masonic Lodge in Colorado. Joel also served on the Coon Rapids - Bayard School Board. Joel was a lifelong learner and education was very important to him. Joel enjoyed traveling, reading, watching Netflix, napping with the pets, dancing, and his wife’s fried chicken. Joel dearly loved his family and cherished every moment spent with them. He also loved his little Beagle, Daisy. Joel is survived by his wife Debra Davis of rural Coon Rapids; his son Zachariah Davis (Katherine Shaw) of Guthrie Center, IA; his daughter Brianna Davis of Ankeny, IA; his mother-in-law Mary Lloyd of Bayard, IA; his sister Kathy McQuarrie (Bruce) of Boynton Beach, FL; his brother David Davis of Fairfax, VA; three sisters-in-law: Ginger Lloyd of Bayard, IA, Jodie Marean (Darwin) of Guthrie Center, IA, and Karen Schaudt of Gainsville, FL; two brothers-in-law: Jack Lloyd (Kathy) of Bayard, IA, and Jerry Lloyd (Joanne) of Jefferson, IA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joel was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mary Davis; his father-in-law Jack Lloyd; and a brother-in-law Timothy Lloyd.
