Joann C. (Emery) Adamson

JoAnn C. (Emery) Adamson, age 76, of Carroll and formerly of Coon Rapids passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Regency Park in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids with Rev. Dennis Bailey of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll officiating. Organist for the service will be Lula Garnes and soloist will be Cindy Seastrom singing “In the Garden” and the congregation will sing “Amazing Grace”. Casket bearers will be Wayne Tolle, Matt Emery, Michael Emery, Gary Emery, Curtis Emery, and Jeff Emery. Honorary casket bearers will be Wendell Emery and Richard Emery. Burial will be in Orange Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Wednesday evening. The casket will be moved to the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for JoAnn’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com. Born on December 7, 1940 in Pocahontas, IA, she was the daughter of Wendell and Lulu (Cretsinger) Emery. Her family moved to Coon Rapids when she was a baby and she graduated from Coon Rapids High School 1958. She was married to Douglas Scott in May of 1959 and to this union was born two children: Gwendolyn and Craig. She was later married to Myron Sales in March of 1973 and to this union was born a daughter Michelle. JoAnn lived in Storm Lake and Council Bluffs where she worked as a nurse before moving back to Coon Rapids in 1975. Myron Sales passed away in 1974. She worked at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids for several years and later became a homemaker. JoAnn was married to Roger Adamson on December 28, 1976 in Coon Rapids. The couple made their home in Glidden and lived a short time in Casper, WY. JoAnn moved to Carroll in 1985 and worked as a dietician at the Carroll Health Center for several years. She also worked at New Hope Village as a group home leader and retired in 2013. JoAnn was an active member of the United Methodist Church while living in Coon Rapids and upon moving to Carroll, she became a member of First United Methodist Church in Carroll. JoAnn enjoyed reading, antiquing, camping, and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. JoAnn is survived by a daughter Michelle Morris (Ron Burden) of Lennox, SD; a son Craig Adamson (Sandy Wiederin) of Redgranite, WI; seven grandchildren: Nicole Burns (Josh), Nathan Adamson (Alex Helling), Courtney Rafferty, Cory Rafferty, Joseth Floyd (Jasmine), Cody Floyd, Gwendolyn Floyd; ten great grandchildren; two sisters: Marilyn Bakenhus of Lincoln, NE, and Janice Headlee (Charles) of Coon Rapids; two brothers: Wendell Emery (Linda) of Jefferson and Richard Emery (Janice) of Jefferson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Gwendolyn Rafferty in 1997, four brothers: Elwin, Darrell, James, and Larry; her husband Myron; and a great-grandson Lucas Floyd.
