Joan Clarice Launspach, age 70, of Lanesboro, IA, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2020 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. Lorinda Hoover of the Lanesboro United Methodist Church officiating.  Casket bearers will be Joan’s nephews.  Burial will be in the Lanesboro Cemetery.

Public visitation without the family present will be from 10 – 11 A.M. on Friday prior to the service.

Covid -19 guidelines will be observed for the visitation and the funeral service and facemasks are required.

Born on May 8, 1950 in Lake City, IA, she was the daughter of Clarence and Erma (Peters) Launspach.  She grew up in Lanesboro and graduated from Lake City High School in 1968.  Following high school she attended the Humbolt Institute in Minneapolis where she became travel agent.  She began her career at Travel and Transport in Des Moines and Ames where she worked from 1970 – 1982.  Joan moved to California in 1982 where she was a founding employee of Discovery Toys which evolved into a premium toy importer.  Joan did a great deal of volunteer work at the Amandor Street Hope Center Food Bank and eventually became its director.  Joan enjoyed going for walks, spending time with her friends, spoiling her dog Rags, taking the ferry from Vallejo to Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, and trips to Napa.

Joan is survived by her sister Connie Steinkamp of Carroll, IA, Connie’s children: Kris Nicholson (Tim) of Rockwell City, IA, Chad Steinkamp (Cristi) of Carroll, Jill Daniel (Mike) of Carroll, Todd Steinkamp (Kristi) of Laurel, IA; her half-sister Bette Burgin (Forrest) of Des Moines, IA; Bette’s children: Sharon Brake of Des Moines, IA, and Jana Kay Shimmer of Des Moines, IA.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Erma Launspach; a brother-in-law Glenn Steinkamp, a niece Sandy Gilbert, and her significant other of 20 years Don Yates.
