Jo Ann E. (Hike) Kroeger, age 70, of Carroll and formerly of Arcadia passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the United Church of Westside with Rev. Richard Francis officiating. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday. The casket will be moved to the United Church in Westside at 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Janine Kock. Casket bearers will be J.R. Hike, Curt Hike, Kevin Hike, Joey O’Tool, Matt Winkel, and Kenny Hike. Honorary casket bearers will be Keith Hike, David Olerich, Shawn O’Tool, Jeff Dion, Steven Dion, and Cory Branning. A luncheon and time to share memories will be held in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Born on September 21, 1944 near Carroll, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Frieda (Janssen) Hike. She spent her younger years in rural Carroll, Coon Rapids, and Sac City. When she was 12 years old her family moved back to Carroll where she graduated from Carroll High School in 1963. Following high school she worked at Tony’s Restaurant for several years. She was married to Darrel Wiese on July 14, 1963 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. To this union were born four children: Donna, Julie, Steven, and Kristine. Jo Ann became a Certified Nurses Aid in 1975 and worked at several nursing homes over the years. She was remarried to Richard Kroeger on April 12, 1996 in Denison where the couple made their home. She worked at three convenience stores in Denison before earning her CDL and becoming an over the road truck driver with her husband Richard. She was a member of the United Church of Westside. Jo Ann was fascinated with genealogy and spent many hours doing research. She belonged to the Carroll Genealogical Society. Jo Ann and Richard moved to Carroll in 2009.
Jo Ann is survived by her husband Richard of Carroll; two daughters: Donna Pulido and her husband Mike of Carroll and Kristine Wiese of Oregon; a son Steven Wiese and his wife Darlene of Carroll; three step children: Rick Kroeger and his wife Cathy of Kansas, Connie Hollander of Aplington, and Jason Kroeger and his wife Samantha of Manilla; seventeen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother Paul Hike of Scranton; three sisters: Marilyn Winkel and her husband Greg of Ft. Dodge, and twins: Phyllis Dion of Carroll and Patricia Leytham and her husband Kenny of Woodbine; a sister-in-law Carol Lamaak and her husband Orville of Denison; and many nieces and nephews.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Julie in 1985, a brother Raymond Hike, and her two toy Pomeranians: Buddy and Molly.
