Jim Vernon Hulsebus

Jim Vernon Hulsebus, age 74, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Accura Healthcare in Carroll surrounded by his family.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 15, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Terry Plocher officiating.  Organist for the service will be Ellen Severin.  Graveside service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Union Township Cemetery near Defiance, IA.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Sunday, November 14, 2021 where there will be a prayer service at 6:30 P.M.  The casket will be moved to the First United Methodist Church in Carroll at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M.

Jim was born on October 10, 1947 in Denison, IA, to Vernon and Esther (Seehusen) Hulsebus.  He was raised on a farm near Denison and graduated from Denison High School in 1965.  After high school Jim worked for Kirsch Drywall.  He moved to Carroll in 1968 following a traumatic brain injury due a car accident, and he resided at New Hope Village from 1977 -2018 when he moved to Accura Healthcare.  Jim enjoyed gardening and he was a Master Gardener.  He also enjoyed watching football especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and the San Francisco 49ers.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll.  Jim advocated for others with traumatic brain injuries at the Iowa Legislature, and he served on the Client Protection and Rights Committee at New Hope Village.

Jim is survived by his sisters: Judy Hintz of Denison and Jeanne Gehling (Brian) of Carroll; his brother Jack Hulsebus (Rhonda) of Maquoketa, IA; a brother-in-law Jim Scheuerman of Boxholm; many nieces and nephews; and his New Hope Village family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Jan Scheuerman.
