Jennie was born on August 10, 1923 on her family’s farm near Coon Rapids and was the daughter of David and Grace (Lamb) Ritchie.  She grew up on the farm in the White Rock area and graduated from the Guthrie Center High School in 1942.  She was married to Neal Whitten on September 5, 1942.  The couple lived in the log cabin at White Rock.  Neal was drafted into the Army Air Corps shortly after their marriage and the couple moved to Tucson, AZ.  When Neal was deployed to the Philippines, Jennie moved to Texas and worked until the war was over.  Neal and Jennie purchased the Mobil Gas Station in Coon Rapids and operated it for several years.  They later moved to a farm south of Glidden where they raised their family.  Jennie was very involved in the farming operation and active in the Glidden United Methodist Church and Merle Hay American Legion Auxiliary.  Jennie and Neal moved to Carroll in  the late 80’s and she became active in the Carroll Presbyterian Church.  In her spare time Jennie enjoyed crocheting, reading, cooking, keeping house, and spending time with her family.

Jennie is survived by two daughters: Barbara McLaughlin of Glidden and Virginia Whitten of Council Bluffs; a son Leonard Whitten of Carroll; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister Dorothy Blanchard of Coon Rapids; two sisters-in-law: Myrna Wolf of Carroll and Joan Whitten of Des Moines; a brother-in-law   Bob Whitten of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.
