Jean M. Reed, age 89, of Carroll passed away on Monday, January 21, 2008 at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll.
Born on December 16, 1918 at Carroll she was the daughter of John T. and Barbara Anne (Greenwood) Anderson. She graduated from Carroll High School in 1937 and Coe College in Cedar Rapids in 1941. She taught English in Lovilia, Iowa and Early, Iowa and later worked at the Commerce Clearing House in Chicago. She was married to Max H Reed on June 24, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. In 1950 the couple moved back to Carroll where they operated Anderson Shoe Store which was started by her grandfather, L.T. Anderson in 1877. Jean was a member of first United Methodist Church in Carroll where she was a lifetime member of the UMW, a trustee for nine years and a choir member for over 50 years. She was on the St. Anthony Regional Hospital Auxiliary and she was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood chapter EB and Order of the Eastern Star Signet Chapter #1.
Surviving are five nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Max in 1993, a brother Harry G. Anderson and his wife Lora and a brother-in-law Robert Orman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Ken Ferguson officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Friday. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Nancy Davis and the soloist will be Mr. Skip Raridon. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday to lie in state until the time of service. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
