Eight months after Jean was born, her mother passed away from complications with pneumonia. Her father was unable to care for the girls, so they were raised by a family friend, Mildred Treat and her parents, Eber and Ethel. Jean and her identical twin sister Barbara were adopted by Mildred when they were 17. Jean attended grade school and high school in Romeo. After high school, she joined the cadet nursing corps at the Detroit Evangelical Deaconess Hospital with plans to graduate and serve in WWII, but the war ended before she finished. Instead, she became an OB nurse at the Pontiac General Hospital in Michigan. Jean later worked for a private doctor as an office nurse. This is where she met her future husband, Dr. Allen Anneberg. They married on December 5, 1959. After three years of marriage, they moved back to Dr. Anneberg’s home town of Carroll. Jean stayed at home and raised their son, Skip, until he was 10 years old. Dr. Anneberg had opened his own medical practice by then, and Jean was his office nurse and bookkeeper. After Dr. Anneberg retired, Jean worked at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home in Carroll. She enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, going out to eat, and spending time with her family. Jean was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll where she served with the United Methodist Women. She was also very active in Eastern Star and had served as Worthy Matron. She had belonged to P.E.O. and was a quilter at the Masonic Lodge. Left to cherish Jean’s memory are her husband Dr. Allen Anneberg of Carroll; son Walter Joseph “Skip” Anneberg of Carroll; a sister Barbara Ann Proctor (Alton) of the Woodlands, TX; a sister-in-law Mary Louise Peterson (Rand) of Harlan; and many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, and her adopted mother Mildred Treat.
