Jana D. Ewing

Jana D. Ewing, age 47, of Carroll passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll with Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating. Casket bearers will be Jana’s sons: Joshua and Levi Ewing, her brother: Tim Blankenship, Jared Carr, Nolan Duhn, and Jordan Martin. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to St. John Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Jana’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on April 19, 1969 in Carroll, she was the daughter of Gary and Karen (Onken) Blankenship. Her family moved to Duncombe, IA, when she was in the fourth grade and she graduated from Webster City High School in 1987. Following high school, Jana operated a daycare in her home and worked for Friendship Haven in Ft. Dodge. She was married to Matthew Ewing on August 19, 1989 at Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe. The couple made their home in Ft. Dodge and to that union was born two sons Joshua and Levi. Matt and Jana, with business partners, owned and operated Five Star Publishing in Ft. Dodge. The couple later divorced but remained soul mates and friends. Jana also worked for Farm News at the Ft. Dodge Messenger as an editor. In 2014 she moved to Carroll and began a new career with Pella Corporation. Jana was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2016 and fought a courageous battle. Jana had a loving caring heart and cherished every moment spent with her family especially her two granddaughters. Jana is survived by her two sons Joshua Lee Ewing of Carroll and Levi Matthew Ewing (Kayla Lara) of Ft. Dodge; her two granddaughters: Rylie and Myla Ewing of Ft. Dodge; her mother Karen Johnson of Carroll; a brother Tim Blankenship (Teresa) of Westminster, CO; and special family members: Emma and Kennedy Foster, Jared Carr, and Nolan Duhn, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of good friends. Jana was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father Gary Blankenship; her step-father Rod Johnson; her soul mate Matt Ewing in 2014, her nephew Jarid Koester, and cousins Benji and Shane Ludwig.
