James Roger Wilt, age 77, of Marshalltown and formerly of Carroll passed away on Friday, August 22, 2008 at the Marshalltown Community Hospital.
Born on January 5, 1931 at Carroll he was the son of Richard and Hollis (Leonard) Wilt. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1949 and then attended Drake University with a basketball scholarship. Following his education at Drake he enlisted in the United States Navy for four years. Jim spent many years working in various bowling alleys with his dad and loved spending his free time bowling. Jim also worked as a press operator at the Carroll Daily Times Herald for many years until he retired for health reasons.
Survivors include a nephew David Wilt and his wife Sonya of Sac City; a niece Diane Winey and her husband Chris of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister-in-law Margaret Wilt of Carroll; and an aunt Delores Leonard of Glidden. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother; Roland Wilt.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. Michael Fitzsimmons of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Ellen Severin. Friends may call from 6 – 8 P.M. on Monday evening at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.
