James Paul Walker, age 54, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2009 from injuries suffered in an auto accident south of Scranton.
Born on January 2, 1955 in Jefferson, Iowa, he was the son of Paul M. and Dolores J. (Shank) Walker. He grew up in Scranton and graduated from Scranton High School in 1973. He attended Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids for a short time. From 1973 – 1976 he worked for Carroll County Ambulance as an EMT where he met his wife. Following this, Jim worked for a farmer until 1978 and lived between Guthrie Center and Audubon. He moved back to Scranton to farm, raise livestock and work at Jefferson Transmission. Most recently Jim was employed by Pella Corporation in Carroll for twelve years. He also managed a hog farm while still raising cattle and farming. He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Scranton and Farm Bureau.
Jim was married to Sue Daniel on April 26, 1975 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale. Jim was always busy doing something, whether it was working, checking cattle, planting corn, or helping others. Throughout Jim’s life his passions included: sports, coon hunting, being down at the river, going to the cabin and spending time with his family and friends. While growing up, he treasured the time he spent with Grandpa Shank. Jim was a well respected, fun loving, hard working and a very caring man. His wife and children are proud to call Jim, husband and Dad.
Surviving are his wife Sue of Scranton; two sons: Jeremy Walker and Amanda Gorden of Scranton, and Danny Walker and Holly Meyer of Glidden; four daughters: Kimmy and Matt Koch of Nevada, Tina Walker and Jeff Clark of Eugene, Oregon, Renae and Ronnie Baugh of Jefferson, and Jessica Walker and Brandon Albers of Manalapan, New Jersey; nine grandchildren: Miranda, Collin, Cassie, Jaislynn, Brenden, Analynn, Lily, Chloe, Natalee; a brother Rob Walker of Milaca, Minnesota; a twin sister Jane Wendle and her husband Chuck of Minnetonka, Minnesota; his parents Paul and Dolores Walker of Scranton; his mother-in-law Martha Daniel of Lidderdale; and in-laws: Steve and Shirley Daniel of Lidderdale, Joe and Katie Daniel of Lidderdale, and Karen Daniel of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, a niece Brenda Gentry, and his father-in-law Everett Daniel.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 5, 2009 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Scranton with Fr. Steven McLoud as celebrant. Music for the service will be by Richard Carey. Lector for the mass will be Jan Morlan. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday where the family will be present from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. and a Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 P.M.. Pall bearers will be Jim Schoenherr, Dan Schoenherr, Tom Winger, Bob Quirk, Jon Baker, and John Lowe. Honorary pall bearers will be Jim’s children, his grandchildren, and Rob Walker, Jane Wendle, Jim’s co-workers of Pella Corporation, and relatives and friends.
