James R. Searby, age 78, of Coon Rapids passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Guthrie Center. Burial will be in the Union Township Cemetery in Rural Guthrie County. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on February 27, 1938 in Valentine, NE, he was the son of Chester and Cleo (Westlake) Searby. He graduated from Crookston High School. Jim worked construction and later worked as a ranch hand in the Valentine area. He was married to Anita Harvey on November 26, 1959 in Zion, Iowa. Upon his retirement, James moved to Coon Rapids to live near his daughter. James enjoyed deer hunting and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. James is survived by a son Robert Searby of Indianapolis, Indiana; a daughter Teresa Royer (Dan) of Coon Rapids; four grandchildren: Casey Searby of Altoona, Alecia Trogdon (Bryan) of West Des Moines, Houston Royer of Coon Rapids, and Steven Searby of Indianapolis; four great-grandchildren: Makayla, Elizabeth, Brittany, and Carter; two brothers: Earl Searby of Corydon, Iowa, and Wiley Searby of South Dakota; and several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Lila Hart and Ruth Capp, and four brothers: Kenneth, Paul, Glen, and Nyle, and a granddaughter Kendra Searby.
