James A. Savery

James Adelbert Savery, age 90, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Regency Park in Carroll.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Carroll City Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carroll American Legion and mailed to the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home c/o Jim Savery 705 N. Carroll St. Carroll, IA 51401.

Jim was born on January 19, 1933, in Denison, IA, and he was the son of Arthur and Pearl (Baer) Savery. He grew up in Denison where he graduated from high school. He was married to Jerrie Nelson on November 2, 1952, in Denison, IA. The couple lived in Denison        where they worked at the Savery Candy Kitchen. The Savery’s moved to Carroll in the Fall of 1973 where Jim worked as an Area Sales Manager for the Metz Baking Company and Jerrie was a homemaker. Jim enjoyed collecting antiques and greatly enjoyed his time spent with his family at their home on Twin Lakes.

Jim is survived by his daughter Sue Scharfenkamp (Jeff) of Carroll; son Jay Savery of Ft. Dodge, IA; six grandchildren: Kate Fisher, Cale Scharfenkamp (Carrie), Eli Scharfenkamp, Samantha Harvey (Jordan), Paige Savery, and Cole Savery; three great-grandsons: Luka, Oliver, and Nelson; two brothers: Rich Savery of Pella, IA, and George Savery (Donna) of Ft. Dodge, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Jerrie; his parents Arthur and Pearl Savery; his father and mother-in-law Oliver and Bernice Nelson; two sisters Maxine Gregorson (Dick) and Nancy Butler (Harry); a brother Arthur Savery (Lenora); two sisters-in-law La Donna Savery and Mari Savery; and a brother-in-law Bill Nelson (Marilyn).
