James Morris

James L. Morris, age 90, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 02, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Rev. Lorinda Hoover officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral from 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday morning until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Matt Borkowski, Tony Borkowski, Daniel Garrett, Chad Stokes, Lance Dean, and Jesse Morris. Burial will be in the Lanesboro Cemetery. Born on September 4, 1921 at home south of Lohrville, Iowa, he was the son of Jesse “J.C.” and Lena (Leach) Morris. He grew up near Rockwell City where he graduated from high school in 1939. He farmed with his father for a few years and met Norma Baty at the roller skating rink in Lake City. They were married on December 23, 1942 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Following their marriage the couple took the train to Washington State and lived in Bremerton, Washington where they worked in the shipyard during WWII for two years. In 1944 they moved back to Rinard, Iowa where they farmed. After living and raising their family in several locations the couple moved to Glidden in 1974. In his spare time Jim enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, gardening, making apple pies with his wife, and spending time with his family. Surviving are his four daughters: Betty VanZelderen and her husband Hans of Carroll, Judy Borkowski and her husband Dan of Churdan, Donna Priest and her husband Steve of Indiana, and Nancy Gebhart and her husband Jim of Lake City; a son Wayne Morris and his wife Joyce of Jefferson; 12 grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; a sister Evelyn Rock her husband Eugene “Rocky” of Idaho; and two sisters-in-law: June Hildreth and her husband Jack of El Cajon, California, and Helen Hinton and her husband Dwayne of Rockwell City. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, his wife in 1999, six brothers: Carroll, Robert, Dwight, George, and Warren “Jack” and Walter in infancy, and a sister Jessie Marie Kinyon and two grandchildren Opal and Angela.
