James Albert Meiners, age 56, of rural Glidden, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, March 25, 2012. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 30, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Fr. Andrew Hoffman as celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 3:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a Rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M.. Lector for the Mass will be Jerry Mathine. Gift Bearers will be John Meiners Jr. and Schellie Meiners and Michele Kelly. Eucharistic ministers will be Eugene and Diane Meiners. Mass servers will be Carter and Maci Wittrock and Tanner Headlee. Casket bearers will be his son Jeremy, his daughter Carrie, and his brothers: Eugene, Duane, Gerald “Jerry”, and John Jr. Honorary casket bearers will be Terry Eslick and all of Jim’s Cousins and nieces and nephews. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery near Coon Rapids. Born on February 9, 1956 at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of John and Margaret (Schachtner) Meiners. His family lived in Willey until 1962 when the family moved to Templeton. Jim graduated from Kuemper High School in 1975. He married Delores “Dee” Vaughan on April 24, 1976 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton by Fr. Eugene Schumacher. The couple lived in Graham Trailer Court in Carroll until 1980 when they moved to Ralston where they lived for eleven years. In 1987 they moved to their current home south of Glidden. Jim worked for Holiday Gas Station and Anderson Shoes in his younger years. He then worked for West Central Coop in the feed mill as a truck driver until going to work for Smithway Motor Express of Ft. Dodge as a driver for several years. Jim was currently employed as a driver by Oberg Trucking of Ft. Dodge. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden, he served on the Ralston Fire Department for several years, he was a member of the Iowa Motor Truck Association where he taught classes to high school students and rode with the D.O.T and State Troopers on inspections. Jim had logged over two million miles of safe truck driving with no accidents. Jim enjoyed farming, golfing, working on vehicles, his John Deere 50 Classic Tractor, going to the races and following NASCAR, but most of all just being with his family. Surviving are he wife Delores “Dee” of rural Glidden; a son Jeremy Meiners and his wife Sabrina of Bellevue, Nebraska; a daughter Carrie Meiners and her special friend Jeff Gilchrist of Urbandale, Iowa; two grandchildren: Sophia and Colton; his mother-in-law Caroline Vaughan of Coon Rapids; a sister Anita Meiners and her fiancé Tom Stahowick of Des Moines; four brothers: Eugene Meiners and his wife Diane of Templeton, Duane Meiners of Templeton, Gerald “Jerry” Meiners of Templeton, and John Meiners Jr. and his wife Schellie of Templeton; a brother-in-law Richard Vaughan of Coon Rapids, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret Meiners, a sister-in-law Mary Meiners, and his father-in-law Gerald “Arky” Vaughan.
