James "Jim" Dentlinger

James “Jim” P. Dentlinger, age 90, of Glidden, passed away on Thursday, March 30,2017 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Fr. Andrew Hoffmann as Celebrant assisted by Deacon Gary Schon. Lectors for the Mass Jean Feuerbach and Diane Pinneke. Gift bearers will be Carol Halbur and Ron Halbur. Music for the Mass will be by the St. Elizabeth Seton Choir with Mary Ross as soloist and Mike Bolton as soloist. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden with military honors by the Merle Hay Post of the American Legion. Casket bearers will be Dennis Fischer, Tom Halbur, LeRoy Dentlinger, Jeff Feilmeier, Leonard Feilmeier, Dale Riesberg and Paul Muhlbauer. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 4:00 P.M. on Monday where there will be a Rosary at 5:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to St. Elizabeth Seton Church at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday where visitation will resume until the time of Mass. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for Jim’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on May 28, 1926 in Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Phillip and Katherine (Eischeid) Dentlinger. He grew up on his family’s farm near Halbur and he attended St. Augustine Catholic School. Following his schooling, Jim worked with his father on the farm and as a hired farmhand for John Ferneding. Jim enlisted in the United States Army 1944 and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands near Alaska. He was married to Rita Feilmeier on January 13, 1948 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle by Fr. Bernard Montag. Jim and Rita lived in Breda where he worked for Snappy Popcorn Company before moving to Glidden where he had a milk and egg route with the Glidden Coop. He also did carpentry work for Helmer Johnson. Jim and Rita purchased a farm southeast of Glidden in 1964 where they raised their children Robert and Beverly. Jim was an active member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden and was instrumental in its formation. He was a member of the Merle Hay Post of the American Legion in Glidden and he served as secretary and president of the Carroll County Farm Bureau. Jim was a farmer at heart which was his true passion. He enjoyed traveling, camping visiting all 50 states, spending the winters in Mesa, Arizona for 20 years, woodworking, and collecting Farmall Diecast Tractors. Jim and Rita also traveled through many parts of Europe and Central America. Jim is survived by his wife Rita of 69 years of Glidden; son Bob Dentlinger (Debra) of Boone; daughter Bev Dentlinger of Glidden; three grandchildren: Keith Dentlinger (Wendy) of Boone, Dawn Kerwood (Michael) of Urbandale, and Katie Johnson (Clay) of Carroll; ten great-grandchildren: Abbey, Ethan, Craig, Evan, Owen, Kaleb, Faith, Konnor, Grace, and Kase; one great-great-grandchild Carrera; a brother-in-law Bernard Feilmeier of Carroll; and sisters-in-law: Elaine Dentlinger of Carroll, Irene Feilmeier of Westside, Marcia Feilmeier of Glidden, Janice Feilmeier of Coon Rapids, MN, and Marjorie Feilmeier of Carroll; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Phillip and Katherine Dentlinger; his in-laws Wendelin and Clara Feilmeier; four sisters: Angie Riesberg (Lester), Agatha Fischer (Clarence), Gladys Halbur (Vincent), and Jeanette Venner (Edward); his twin brother Jerome Dentlinger; a grandson Craig Dentlinger; brothers-in-law: Rudy, Al, Earl, Leonard, and Junior Feilmeier; and sisters-in-law Laura Muhlbauer and Marie Lammers.
