Ivan Henry Tigges, age 82, of Carroll passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Hawkeye Care Center in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home after 3:30 P.M. on Friday where there will be a Rosary at 4:30 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of Mass. Music for the Mass will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir with John Wagner as soloist. Lectors for the Mass will be Grace Steffes and Erica Tigges. Gift Bearers will be will be Betty Tigges and Lori Tigges. Mass servers will be Grace Steffes and Erica Tigges. Eucharistic Minister will be Kathy Kraus. Casket Bearers will be Kyle Bauer, Nicole Bauer, Krista Tigges, Carly Tigges, Alec Daniel, Hunter Daniel, Haley Hamer, and Jeff Riesenberg. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors by the Carroll American Legion. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on August 17, 1933 in Carroll, IA, he was the son of Othmar and Irene (Snyder) Tigges. Ivan grew up on his family’s farm near Willey where he attended school. Ivan worked for Tigges Shelling and for several local farmers before he was drafted into the United States Army in November of 1956. He completed basic training at Ft. Chaffee, AK, and completed aircraft mechanic’s school in Ft. Rucker, AL. He then went to Dugway Proving Ground in Utah. He was then stationed for 13 months in Korea until he was discharged on November 8, 1958. After his discharge, he worked for one year for Mauer Construction and then six years at the Farmer’s Elevator in Carroll. He then worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 28 years. He enjoyed fishing, the grandchildren’s ball games, figure 8 races, and traveling. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Charlotte Wegner were married on November 25, 1961 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. They had five children: Calvin, Craig, Renee, Denise, and Amy. Ivan is survived by his children Calvin Tigges (Betty) of Carroll, Craig Tigges (Lori) of Mt. Carmel, Renee Daniel of Lidderdale, Denise Hamer (Dion) of Carroll, and Amy Tigges (Michael McLaughlin) of Carroll; grandchildren: Kyle and Nicole Bauer, Krista and Carly Tigges, Alec and Hunter Daniel, Haley Hamer; step-grandchildren: Kassi Hamer, Chad and Jeff Riesenberg, and Mary Bakkie; three great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Aggie Stouten of Eureka Springs, AK, and Zita (John) Kotz of Denison, IA; two brothers: Virgil Tigges (Diane) of Carroll and Robert (Aggie) Tigges of Urbandale; and in-laws: Patricia Tigges of Berryville, AK, Merle Wegner of San Antonio, TX, and Mary Anne Moore (Doug) of Ladson, SC. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents Othmar and Irene (Snyder) Tigges, his mother and father-in-law Frank and Frances (Kanne) Wegner, brothers: LaVerne, Leon, Phillip, John, a sister Elaine, two brothers-in-law Norman and Larry Wegner, his wife Charlotte of 53 years on March 1, 2015, a son-in-law Craig Daniel on April 28, 2015, and a step-grandson Billy Riesenberg.
