Ivan DeForest Henning, age 85, of Scranton, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2011 at Regency Park Care Center in Carroll, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Pleasant Ridge Community Church south of Glidden with Pastor Steve Young and Pastor Brian Hodge officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Joan Bundt and the soloist will be Jenny Wiles. Casket bearers will be David Bebb, Daniel Bebb, Duane Bebb, Donald Bebb, Jason Kunce, Craig Peterson, and Brian Hunter. Honorary casket bearers will be Russ Hoffman, Kim Bates, Bob Seaman, Berle Johnson, Alan Thompson, Larry Frazier, Chop Gibson, and Dean Gibson. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery. Born on June 21, 1926 at Scranton, Iowa, on his family’s farm he was the son of Vernon and Nellie (Mallett) Henning. He grew up on his family’s farm 3 miles south of Scranton and attended country school. He was married to Velma Eason on June 7, 1953 at the Kendrick Friends Church near Scranton. The couple farmed all their married life on the family farm Ivan was born on. Ivan retired from farming in 1990. He has been a resident of Regency Park Care Center in Carroll since 1997. He was a member of the Carroll Church of Christ. Ivan enjoyed caring for his livestock, working in the garden, and spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife Velma of rural Scranton; four daughters Viola Kunce and her husband Jerral of rural Lake City, Iowa, Diane Bebb and her husband David of New London, Iowa, Dione Cornelius and her husband Tom of Bagley, Iowa, and Lois Flath and her husband Craig of Carroll; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister Evelyn Bancroft of Jefferson, Iowa; two sisters-in-law: Doneta Lindquist and her husband Lawrence of Sac City, Iowa, and Donna Gerdes of Ralston; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ellis Henning, and a brother-in-law Clifford Bancroft.
