Iva M. Harmening

Iva Marie Harmening, age 99, of Lidderdale passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale with Pastor Robert Wagner officiating. Organist for the service will be Ed Ludwig.  Congregational hymns will be Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, and Just As I Am.  Casket bearers will be Marv Frischmeyer, Kelly McCarville, David Frischmeyer, Daniel McCarville, Jason Grossman, and Dave Peters.  Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M.  The casket will be moved to Immanuel Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com  The family suggests memorials be made to St. Anthony Hospice and may be left at the funeral home or the church.

Born on January 5, 1920 in Arcadia, IA, she was the daughter of Emil and Emma Johanna (Brockmann) Peters.  She grew up in Arcadia and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church.  She graduated from Arcadia High School and attended business school in Omaha.  Following her schooling, Iva helped her father at their car dealership, Peters Motors.  She was married to Lawrence Spater on December 10, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia.  The couple made their home on a farm north of Arcadia and Lawrence passed away on September 11, 1973.  Iva continued living on the farm and was later married to Erwin Harmening on January 25, 1975 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia.  Erwin and Iva farmed east of Lidderdale and she became the loving mother of his daughters Julie and Cindy. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale and served on several boards as well as ladies aide. She was also a member of the Arcadia American Legion Auxilary.  Iva enjoyed gardening, reading, singing, playing the organ and accordion, and spending time outdoors with her cats.

Iva is survived by her two daughters: Julie Frischmeyer (Marvin) of rural Carroll and Cindy McCarville (Kelly) of Olathe, KS; four grandchildren: Lisa Grossman (Jason) of Panora, Dan McCarville (Jill) of Olathe, KS, David Frischmeyer of Grimes, and Curtis Frischmeyer of Carroll; five great-grandchildren: Lane, Nolan, Benjamin, Sullivan, and Theodore; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Iva was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Emma Peters, her brother Lee Peters (Barb), her sister Mae Popp (Lester), and her two husbands Lawrence Spater and Erwin Harmening, and her grandson Tommy McCarville.
