Irma Sundermann

Irma Sundermann, age 89, of Carroll passed away on Monday, April 20, 2009 at Swan House Assisted Living in Carroll. She was born on February 14, 1920, near the town of Zhitomir, Ukraine, USSR. She was the daughter of Gustav and Martha (Leder) Schroeter. Her family fled the Bolshevik revolution and moved to Mexico in 1926 and from Mexico to Nebraska in 1928. She was married to Wilbert Sundermann on September 27, 1941 at Green Garden Church in Madison County, Nebraska. The couple moved to Carroll after their marriage where Wilbert and his brother, Arno, owned and operated Sundermann Bros. Electric Motor Service until their retirement and sale of the business in 1980. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll where she served faithfully in many roles. She was a Sunday school teacher for 23 years. She was active in LWML, Church Circle, and Ladies Aid, and she decorated the church for many years. She was active in Walther League while living in Nebraska. Irma loved gardening and flowers, her family, her church, her friends and all things beautiful. Surviving are three sons: Ron Sundermann and his wife Trudy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Gary Sundermann and his wife Marilyn of Brighton, Michigan, and Steve Sundermann and his wife Patti of Carroll; a sister Ida Jons and her husband Merlin of Payson, Arizona; a brother Ray Schroeter and his wife Marilyn of Neuman Grove, Nebraska; a brother Paul Schroeter and his wife Helen of Norfolk, Nebraska; a sister Clara Johnson of Neuman Grove, Nebraska; a brother Oscar Schroeter and his wife Kay of Chandler, Arizona, a brother. Fred Schroeter and his wife Fran of Spirit Lake, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren with one great grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1990, a daughter Marilyn in infancy, a brother Otto, and sisters Helen and Betty. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor David Anthony and Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Jan Hoff and soloist will be Mr. Marvin Toft. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Irma’s grandchildren: Jon Sundermann, Matt Sundermann, Ryan Sundermann, Carl Sundermann, Eric Sundermann, Kevin Mitchell, and Amy Sundermann. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
