Ione Helen Andersen

Ione Helen Andersen, age 88, of Arcadia passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake. Born on October 10, 1920 near Westside, Iowa, she was the daughter of Edward and Anna (Aschinger) Jons. She grew up on a farm north of Westside and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1937. She attended normal teacher training in Storm Lake after high school and then taught country school in the Westside - Arcadia area. She was married to Warren Andersen on September 8, 1946 at First Presbyterian Church in Carroll by Rev. Wheatley. To this union were born three children: Donna, Karen, and Glen. Ione was a member of the Arcadia Presbyterian Church where she had served as Elder and held various offices until its closing. She was a founding member of the Ehlers – Gerken American Legion Auxiliary Unit 694 in Arcadia. She was co-leader of the American Legion Auxilary for over 45 years. She was also a member of the Ace Club. In her spare time she enjoyed crafts, visiting with friends on the telephone, gardening, and the Antique Road Show. Surviving are two daughters: Donna Andersen of Waterloo, and Karen Chapman of Waterloo; a son Glen Andersen and his wife Jan of Arcadia; three grandchildren: Zac Andersen and his wife Cathy, and Casey and Holly Andersen; a sister Bernice Brotherson of Wall Lake; and three sisters-in-law: Hazel Bruggeman of Arcadia, Cecil Andersen of Arcadia, and Jeanette Jons of Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1995, and a brother Arlo Jons. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. Donald Gibson of Wheatland Presbyterian Church officiating. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Ellen Severin. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Monday. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery.
