Ian John Mitchell

Ian John Mitchell, age 58, of Carroll , Iowa, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Born on February 16, 1951 at Brisbane, Australia, he was the son of Norman M. and Ellen E. (Gibson) Mitchell. He grew up in Brisbane where he attended school and served in the Australian Army for three years. He was married to Marcia Onken on October 19, 2002 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale. He was employed by Denny Huegerich as a truck driver. Before this he worked at Cabbys Convenience Store in Carroll for three years and Tiefenthaler Ag Lime in Breda for two years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale. Ian enjoyed trucking, fishing, playing pool, and collecting belt buckles. Surviving are his wife Marcia of Carroll; a son Corey Mitchell of Brisbane, Australia; a daughter Elizabeth Mitchell of Brisbane, Australia; a step-daughter Lindsey Onken of Ames, Iowa; a sister Beverley Mitchell of Brisbane, Australia; a grandson Michael Onken of Ames, Iowa; his mother-in-law Beulah Onken of Lidderdale, Iowa; and three sisters-in-law: Karen Johnson of Clarion, Iowa, Kathy Heinrichs and her husband Paul of Carroll, Iowa, and Debbie Ludwig and her husband Eldon of Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents his father-in-law Lyle Onken and five brothers-in-law: Jim Onken, Ron Onken, Mike Onken, Gary Blankenship and Rod Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 13, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale with Pastor William Weiss officiating. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Agnes Onken and the congregation will sing. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Paul Heinrichs, Eldon Ludwig, Max Wenck, Denny Huegerich, Randy Janning, and Jared Brinker. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale.
