Hyacinth M. Lappe, age 84, of Perry passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry. According to Hy’s wishes, private family services will be held. Arrangements are entrusted to the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home of Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com “Hy” as she was known to most was born on September 24, 1935 at Westphalia, Iowa. She was the daughter of Leo and Magdelene (Altman) Gubbels. She grew up in Westphalia and Kimballton. She worked in Omaha for a time following school and then moved to Carroll where she worked for Mac’s Casino Café and the Perry Nursing Home. She was married to Gerald Lappe on June 17, 1961 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple lived near Ralston where they farmed for several years and later moved to Massena where they purchased a farm. Gerald passed away in 2009 and Hy moved to Atlantic where she attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Hyacinth was a very fun loving wife. Hy enjoyed gardening, mowing her lawn, sewing, crafts, and baking. Hyacinth will be remembered by her children as an excellent cook. Surviving are a daughter Sandy White and her husband LeRoy of Casey, Iowa; a son Larry Lappe and his wife Julie of Carlisle, Iowa; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two sisters: Millie Broich of Carroll, and Eunice Madsen Shepherd and her husband Tom of Spirit Lake, Iowa; three sisters-in-law: Magdelene “Maggie” Lappe of Arlington, Virginia, and Darlene Fitzhontz of Waukegan, Illinois, and Bernita Lappe of New Ulm, Minnesota. Hyacinth was preceded in death by parents, her husband Gerald in 2009, four brothers: Kenneth, Donald, Pat, and Virgil and six sisters: Janet, Judy, Thelma, Delores, Germaine and Henrietta. Hyacinth will be missed by many.
