Hilda Henrietta Finley

Hilda Finley, age 94, of Glidden, Iowa passed away at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, Iowa on June 5, 2008 at 5:00 A.M. after a brief illness. Born on October 24, 1913 at Glidden, Iowa, she was the daughter of Henry D and Dena Berns of Lidderdale, and was a lifelong resident of Glidden and Carroll County. She married Harold Rabb on January 13, 1932 at St. John’s Lutheran parsonage. They farmed in the area until Harold’s death in 1963. She then worked at several agri-related businesses, owned the Koffee Kup Kafe in Glidden, and worked at the Carroll Health Center. She has attended St. John’s Lutheran Church since her baptism, and was the oldest living member at the time of her death. Hilda married Leo Finley on December 31, 1976 and they lived in Glidden. Leo passed away in 1995. Hilda loved to dance, was an avid Iowa State Cyclones Fan, Chicago Cubs fan, and a long time American Legion Auxiliary member. She was also served on the Ladies Aid at St. John’s. Hilda is the last of thirteen children of the Henry D. Berns family of Lidderdale. She is survived by two children: Donna (Rabb) Anderson and her husband Duane of Enid, Oklahoma, and Richard Rabb and his wife Phyllis of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Geneva Berns of Palermo, California; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2008 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Carroll with Rev. Kathy Wicks officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Janice Potthoff and vocalists will be Mark and Linda Bluml. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Monday to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Marty Hart, Ron Richardson, Duane Wenck, Dennis Bruns, Johnny Berns, and David Beyerink. Burial will be in Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.
