Helene Amelia Schoenherr, age 86, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2010 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Fr. Anthony Pick, Fr. Richard Remmes, and Deacon Gary Schon Concelebrating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 2:30 P.M. on Monday where there will be a Rosary held at 3:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. Lectors for the Mass will be Shaun Meiners, Debbie Brown, Kelci Stevens, and Ann Marie Kluthe. Gift bearers will be Helene’s grandchildren. Casket bearers will be Helene’s grandsons: Robb Steffes, Nick Steffes, Marc Steffes, Matt Steffes, Jeff Meiners, Shaun Meiners, Ryan Kasperbauer, and Dan Schoenherr. Honorary casket bearers will be Julie Kluthe, Deb Brown, Marcie Antisdal, Laura Haubrich, Marie Sturm, Jill Schoenherr, Jamie Schoenherr, Jaci Stevens, and Kala Berglund. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Born on January 28, 1924 at Charter Oak, Iowa, she was the daughter of Charles and Ann (Murphy) Staley. She grew up in the Charter Oak – Ute area and graduated from Ute High School. She was married to Alvy Schoenherr on February 7, 1944 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ute. The couple farmed three miles north of Ute until 1952 when they moved to Guthrie County. Helene and Alvy moved to Glidden in 1957. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden where she was very active and was in charge of the funeral luncheon committee for many years.. In her spare time she enjoyed volunteering at New Hope Village and St. Anthony Regional Hospital, shopping, dancing, and spending time with her family. Surviving are her five children and spouses: a son Jim Schoenherr (Carolyn) of Glidden, a daughter Ielene Steffes (Larry) of Okoboji, Iowa, a daughter Jeanine Meiners (Ron) of Carroll, a daughter Kathie Kasperbauer (Denny) of Wahpeton, Iowa, and a son Jude Schoenherr (Judy) of Dow City, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; a brother Charles Staley of Riverside, California; a sister-in-law Sister Consilia Schoenherr of Dubuque, Iowa; a sister-in-law Bernice Hageman of Charter Oak; a sister-in-law Sister Eileen Schoenherr of Dubuque, Iowa; a sister-in-law Nora Flanigan of Mapleton, Iowa; a sister-in-law Stella Dietz of Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1996, a daughter-in-law Lois Schoenherr.
