Helen "Martie" Roden Gooch

Helen “Martie” Roden Gooch, age 89, of Kansas City, Missouri, and formerly of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Kansas City.    Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. A luncheon will follow after the service at the Lincoln Club in Glidden. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Angel Flight Central, 10 Richards Rd, Kansas City, MO 64116.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com    Martie was born November 9, 1924 in Laurens, Iowa, and was the daughter of Arthur and Sadie (Kester) Cone. She graduated from the Glidden – Ralston High school in 1942. She was married to Leland Roden on December 7, 1947.  Martie and Leland owned and operated Glidden Mutual Insurance agency for many years as well as farmed north east of Glidden. Leland passed away on March 4, 1993. She was later married to Richard Gooch on May 18, 1996 and the couple made their home in Kansas City, Missouri. She was member of the Antioch Community Church in Kansas City where she was active in women’s groups and Bible study. She enjoyed playing the organ, cooking, volunteering with Angel’s Flight Central, and spending time with her family.      Martie is survived by her husband, Richard Gooch of Kansas City, Missouri, a daughter Kendra Schoeman and her husband Steve of Leawood, Kansas, a son Keith Gooch of Kansas City, Missouri, and two grandchildren, Regan and Erica. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: John and Ernie Cone and her husband Leland.
