Helen Ruth Harkrider

Helen Ruth Harkrider, age 79, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025 at her home in Carroll surrounded by family. According to Helen’s wishes, private family services will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Helen was born on July 27, 1945 in Shultz, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Elmer and Ruth (Henry) Dossey. She grew up in Oklahoma and lived in many places throughout her life. While living in California, she met her husband Phillip Briscoe and lived there until his death in 1994. Helen and Phillip had two children, Shawn Renee and Justin Phillip. In 1995, she moved to Broken Bow, Oklahoma to be near her sister and family where she met and married Larry Kim Harkrider. After his passing, she moved to Iowa to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Helen enjoyed collecting dolls and making afghans, but most of all she cherished time spent with her grandchildren. Helen is survived by a daughter Shawn Renee Brown (Joseph) of Carroll; a son Justin Phillip Briscoe of Reno, Nevada; four grandchildren: Joshua Brown (Leah), Colton Brown (Elyn Morris), Branden Brown, and Bryonna Brown (Timothy Blake); four great-grandchildren: Tanner, Ezra, Emmalyn, and Cameron; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Helen was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Ruth Dossey; five brothers: Vernon, Kenneth, Lester “Pat”, Billy, and Kelsey Jr.; two sisters: Jackie and Eloise; and a granddaughter Maranda Brown.
