Hazel Irene Crooks, age 97, of Scranton, IA passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll, IA.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton with Pastor Bob McKnight officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton after 5:00 P.M. on Monday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Laura McKnight. Casket bearers will be Jamie Crooks, Wade Crooks, Ken Pedersen, Tom Marks, John Marks, and Travis Oppman. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.
Born on August 1, 1916 in Glidden, IA she was the daughter of John and Ada (Wright) Marks. She grew up in Greene County and she attended school in Kendrick as a girl. She was married to Cleo Crooks on January 17, 1945 at Corydon. The couple raised their family in the Guthrie Center area. The couple moved to Scranton in 1987. She was a member of the Scranton Church of Christ. Hazel loved to crochet. She also enjoyed garden, canning, wallpapering, playing the guitar for dances, playing cards, and spending time with family.
Hazel is survived by her three children: Shirley Osgood and her husband Marvin of Lampe, MO, a son Dale Crooks and his wife Linda of Mason City, IA, and a son Dennis Crooks and his wife Darcia of Mason City, IA; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a sister Fern Pedersen of Glidden; a sister-in-law Reva Crooks of Corydon, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1992, and three sisters Dorothy Sharon, Ellen Dillinger, and Myrtle Barich, two brothers Sid and Warren Marks, and two brothers in infancy.
