Hazel Bruggeman, age 88, of Arcadia, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home in Carroll.
Born on July 28, 1923 at Arcadia, Iowa, she was the daughter of Julius and Tieska (Tjaden) Andersen. She was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Arcadia. Hazel graduated from Arcadia High School. Following high school she worked in the bookkeeping and mail departments at Henry Field Seed and Nursery in Shenandoah, Iowa. She was married to Leonard Bruggeman on January 15, 1946 at the Carroll Presbyterian Church by Rev. Whealty. The couple farmed northeast of Arcadia all their married life. After Leonard’s death in 1959, the family moved into Arcadia and Hazel worked for the Arcadia Telephone Company, Bob’s Hardware, and 28 years for the Arcadia Farmer’s Cooperative.
Hazel is survived by one daughter, Carla Goedderz and her husband Jay of Medina, Minnesota; four grandchildren: Jamie Bruggeman, Jeff Bruggeman, Cody Goedderz, and Paige Goedderz; two great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law Jane Bruggeman of Boone, Iowa, and Ann Bruggeman of St. Peter, Minnesota; a sister-in-law Cecile Andersen of Arcadia; several nieces; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1959, two sons: Donald in 1992 and Gerald in 1999; two brothers: William and Warren Andersen and a sister-in-law Ione Andersen.
A private graveside service will be held at the Arcadia Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Arcadia Cemetery Association and may be sent to her daughter Carla Goedderz at 880 Foxberry Farms Road, Medina, Minnesota 55340.
