Harry D. Frank, age 93, of Carroll, Iowa, died at his home on August 2, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM. on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll with the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzsimmons officiating. Interment will be in the Westside Cemetery at Westside. Military Honors will be given by the Alfred R. Rossman Post #196 of the American Legion of Westside. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. Wednesday where there will be a prayer service and a Masonic Memorial service at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday to lie in state until time of the service. Organist will be Mrs. Sally Patten. Casket bearers will be David Benton, Dillman Benton, Kurtlin Frank, Michael Vincent, Doug Frank, and Joseph Cellucci. Born on Sepember 4, 19l6 at Sioux Rapids, Iowa, he was the son of Harry W. and Agnes (Hagge) Frank. Harry was married to Verna E. Benton on June 22, 194l at the home of her parents in Westside with Rev. D. C. Davis officiating. Harry attended and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1934. Following graduation he enlisted in the United states Arm y Signal Corp in 1942 where he sereved as as an instructor. While serving in the service he received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Ribbon. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After being discharged from the military he joined the family business of D.E. Benton Company in Westside, Iowa. In 1950 he purchased the Carroll Implement Company. After selling the implement business in 1961 Harry was employed as a district representative for the M & W Gear Company out of Illinois until his retirement. Following his retirement he worked with his wife in her accounting and financial business handling insurance and investments. Harry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll where he was an ordained Elder of the Church. He was a member of the Alfred R. Rossman Post of the American Legion of Westside, a former Elks Lodge Member, a member of Signet Masonic Lodge #264 A.F. and A.M., the Chapter, Council and Commandery of the Za Ga Zig Shrine of Des Moines which he served as a Shrine Hospital Dad transporting children to the Shrine Hospital, and he was a Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Westside. In his spare time he enjoyed reading the newspaper, spending time with his wife, and traveling. Surviving are his wife Verna E. Frank of Carroll; a son Gerald B. Frank and his wife Carol of Panora, Iowa; two daughters: LoaDawn Vincent and her husband Gene of Carroll and Diann Yoakum and her husband Rick of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Douglas Frank, Kurtlan Frank, Steffanie Frank, Michael Vincent, Suzanne Hider, and Joseph Cellucci; eight great grandchildren; and a sister Marjorie Bauer of Burlington, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lester, a sister Gertrude Schroeder, and many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
