Harriet L. Miller

Harriet L. Miller, age 91, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2008 at Carroll Health Center in Carroll. Born on November 5, 1917 at Hanna City, Illinois, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Edith H. (Doubet) McNaughton. She lived in Hanna City, Illinois, until age 13 when her family moved to Carroll. She attended Carroll High School and later graduated from Brown School of Business in Peoria, Illinois. She worked for many years as a labor and delivery technician at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. She was married to Berle Miller on March 17, 1938 at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Audubon. Harriet was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll, Farm Bureau of which she had served as District Chairman, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Surviving are a daughter Cynthia Sharon Bernard and her husband Davis of St. Louis County, Missouri; a daughter Alice Nadine Iverson of Oskaloosa, Iowa; a son Robert Charles Miller and his wife Carolyn of Carroll; a daughter Della Jean Weems and her husband Darrell of Adel, Iowa; a daughter Luann Beryl Miller of Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; a sister Dorothy Sonkensen of Oakland, Iowa; a brother-in-law Harold Miller of Elgin, Nebraska; a brother-in-law Gerald Miller and his wife Lois of Elgin, Nebraska; and a brother-in-law Lyle Miller of Neligh, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1995, two grandchildren: Edith Marie Iverson and Jacob D. Weems, and four brothers-in-law: Clifford, Charles, William, and Paul. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 3, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Ken Ferguson officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Ellen Severin and vocalists will be Carolyn and Brian Miller. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be grandsons: Richard Bernard, Brian Miller, Eric Iverson, Aaron Iverson, Evan Iverson, and Josh Weems. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
