Harold Richard Siegler

Harold Richard Siegler, 83, of Coon Rapids went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 25, 2023 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Alive Church in Coon Rapids with Rev. Ben Kolars officiating. Music for the service will be by Darrin Kozak, Lindsay Drake, Diane Slater.  Military honors will be conducted at the service by the United States Navy.  Cremation will follow the service with inurnment at a later date.

Visitation will be held from 5 – 7  p.m. Friday, September 29 at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids.  The casket will be moved to Alive Church at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until 1:45 P.M. prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Harry’s name, may be made to Alive Church.

Harry was born on May 25, 1940 to Stephen and Marie Siegler in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Philadelphia with his brother, Frederick. Following graduation from Northeast High School in Philadelphia, Harry first served in the US Navy Reserve from 1957 until 1960. He then served as a Naval Aviator in active duty until 1967, during which he served in both Cuban campaigns and Vietnam. In 1963, Harry married Ellen Weintz. Harry attended Drexel Institute of Technology, University of Pennsylvania, and Old Dominion College and held a Masters in Electrical Engineering. He worked as a Design Engineer in both hardware and software aspects. Throughout his career he made life-long friends with many of his colleagues. He traveled extensively for both work and pleasure, and he lived abroad in Hong Kong, Israel, and France. In 1996, Harry married Jane Thompson in Colorado Springs. They enjoyed 26 years of marriage. Harry retired from the computer industry in 2002 and shortly thereafter relocated to Coon Rapids, the hometown of his wife, Jane. While living there, he served on the Coon Rapids Municipal Utilities Board of Trustees and was an active member at Alive Church. Harry was a life-long learner who was just as comfortable quoting the book The Count of Monte Cristo as he was the movie Little Shop of Horrors, series Dr. Who, or singing a Weird Al Yankovic parody. Regardless of the topic, Harry had an opinion he was willing to share. He enjoyed hiking in the mountains in his younger years. He researched and built military and railroad models, spending countless hours in his customized modeling workshop where his attention to detail was second to none. He found much joy in sharing his model building knowledge with close friend, Ben Kolars, and collaborating with members and friends of the Des Moines Area Plastic Modeling Club.

Harry is survived by his wife, Jane; children, Joe (Lynn), Ed (Theresa), and Curtis; step- children Tammy, Brian, and Angie (Chris). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Samantha, David, Maya, Nick, and Erik. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother; and step son, Matt.
