Harold J. Lucht, age 88, of Glidden passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the Fonda Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden with Pastor Alan Miller officiating. Organist for the service will be Becky Miller. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Casket bearers will be Harold’s grandchildren. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Born on April 17, 1928 on his family’s farm in Willow Township near Coon Rapids. He was the son of John and Anna (Schick) Lucht. He grew up on the farm and attended country school as a boy and Coon Rapids High School. He then worked for Milky Way Dairy in Coon Rapids and helped his father farm. He was married to Shirley Sill on February 19, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church, next to the family farm, near Coon Rapids by Pastor E.J. Stelling. Harold and Shirley farmed on several farms south of Glidden and then purchased their farm east of Glidden in 1968. Harold had served as president of the Carroll County Pork Producers and was active with Carroll Cattlemen’s Association, and Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden and served on many boards over the years. Farming was Harold’s life. He raised Holstein heifers, milk cows, beef cattle, hogs, sheep, and chickens. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He loved taking the family to Okoboji for vacation and fishing every summer, and he and Shirley spent 32 winters in Mesa, Arizona. Harold is survived by his wife Shirley, of 66 years, of Glidden; four children: Carol Brant (Robert Bernard) of Carroll, Denny Lucht of Glidden, David Lucht (Debra) of Minburn, and Connie Wiederin (Kenneth) of Glidden; seven grandchildren: Jeffrey Brant of Carroll, Allison Meyer of Ralston, Tyler Lucht (Amy) of Adel, Dustin Lucht (Beth) of Ames, Weston Lucht (Michelle) of Perry, Jason Wiederin (Kim) Glidden, and Nick Wiederin (Christy) of Glidden; nine great grandchildren: Brayton, Brianna, Blake, Brayden, Brenna, Landon, Adalynn, Lillian and Ethan; two brothers: Ron Lucht of Coon Rapids and Richard Lucht (Judy) of West Des Moines; sister-in-law Grace Lucht of Des Moines; and sister-in-law Betty Schechinger (Carl) of Hutcheson, KS; and several nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Wayne Lucht, and a nephew Randall Lucht.
