Harold Conrad, age 88, of Carroll, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Ken Ferguson officiating. Organists for the service will be Ellen Severin and Nancy Davis. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M., on Wednesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday to lie in state until the time of service. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Casket bearers for the service will be Chad Bluml, Corey Bluml, Tyson Wilkins, Ryan Sikkema, Dylan Goetzinger, Noah Goetzinger, and Steve Klinkefus. Honorary casket bearers will be Heidi Griffin, Mackenzie Julich, Angela Owen, Chelsea Wilkins, Bailey Wilkins, and Taylor Goetzinger. Born on July 5, 1919 near Lidderdale, Iowa, he was the son of Harve and Elizabeth (Hein) Conrad . He attended school in Lidderdale, Iowa through the 8th grade and then helped his father on the family farm until 1948. He and Lois Ann Jones were married September 19, 1954, at First Presbyterian Church in Lytton, Iowa. Harold and Lois moved to Carroll in 1954. He was employed at Heider Manufacturing Company in Carroll for 36 years until the company closed in 1984. After retirement, he enjoyed his part-time job at the Hy-Vee Store in Carroll until the fall of 1993. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was an usher quite often on Sunday mornings. Harold enjoyed dancing, going to slow pitch softball games, attending his grandchildren’s activities, playing cards, and family picnics. Surviving are one son, Reg Conrad and his fiancée Linda Friedrichsen, of Ida Grove, Iowa, four daughters; Linda Bluml and husband Tony of Carroll, Diane Sikkema and husband Mike of Carroll, Janet Wilkins and husband Denny of Westminster, CO., and Kim Goetzinger and husband Brian, of Ankeny, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one nephew, Steve Klinkefus and wife Marcia of Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois, and a sister Evelyn Gray.
