Harold W. Christensen, age 92, passed away on November 22, 2007 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. Born on August 5, 1915 at Scranton he was the son of Tinus and Ella (Hansen) Christensen. Harold was a lifelong resident and farmer near Scranton. He graduated from Scranton High School and then attended the University of Northern Iowa and the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minnesota. He was married to Violette “Vi” Peterson on September 15, 1951 in Minnesota. The couple raised their family on the family farm west of Scranton. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Scranton. Harold had been a Sunday school teacher and a church council member. He had been named the Iowa Master Pork Producer in 1962. He had served on the Greene County FHA Board, the Greene County Pork Producers Board, and the Farmers Elevator Cooperative Board of Scranton. He enjoyed sports, gardening, reading, being with his family and attending grandchildren’s activities. Surviving are his wife Violette Christensen of Jefferson; a son Glen Christensen and his wife Cheryl of Scranton; a daughter Sharon Stalder and her husband John of Jefferson; six grandchildren: Kyle Stalder and his wife Cheri of Jefferson, Breanne Stalder of Phoenix, Arizona, Bethany Stalder of West Des Moines, Randy Christensen of Scranton, Karlin Stalder of Ames, and Matthew Christensen of Scranton; two great grandchildren: Bryce and Kaylee; and three sisters-in-law: Ethel Agrimson and her husband Paul of Peterson, Minnesota, Ruby Christensen of Oklahoma and Jean Agrimson of Utica, Minnesota and Ruby Christensen. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Romayne and George, sisters Elma Hardin and Grace Thornton, and a grandson Ryan Christensen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 26, 2007 at the Scranton United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Daylong officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Sunday evening where the family will greet friends. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:00 A.M. on Monday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Karen Murphy and the soloist will be Carlie Madison. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery near Scranton. Casket bearers will be Harold’s grandchildren: Kyle Stalder, Breanne Stalder, Bethany Stalder, Randy Christensen, Karlin Stalder, and Matthew Christensen. Honorary casket bearers will be Glen Hoyt, Wayne Brown, Dean St. Peter, Calvin Rasmussen, Harry Rasmussen, Orville Hanson, Lloyd Robbins, and Horace Hedges. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Scranton Library and may be left at the funeral home or the church.
