Halvor “Hal” Otto Clausen, age 97, of Glidden passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Regency Park in Carroll. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Rev. Brian Camara officiating. Casket bearers will be Hal’s six children. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors by the Glidden American Legion. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 5 – 7 P.M. on Thursday evening where there will be a Masonic Memorial Service at 6:00 P.M. Additional visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. on Friday until the time of service at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for Hal’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on February 4, 1919 in Carroll, IA, he was the son of Otto and Pearl (Squires) Clausen. Hal grew up in the Carrollton area and graduated from Coon Rapids High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and served with the Mounted Calvary at Ft. Meade, SD. Hal also served in the Philippines and other locations for a total of 20 years of military service retiring as a Captain. He was married to Maxine Virginia Crane on October 1, 1941 at Sturgis, SD. The couple farmed in the Carrollton area where they raised their family and he worked as a salesman. He was a 50 year member of the Carroll Masonic Lodge. Hal and Maxine were members of Pleasant Ridge Community Church near Glidden. They loved ballroom dancing and going to dances throughout the area. Hal is survived by a daughter Ginny Soyer (Allen) of Glidden; five sons: Dennis Clausen (Ina Hansen) of Greenfield, Ronald Clausen (Debra) of Carroll, Steven Clausen (Barbara) of Glidden, Pat Clausen (Mary) of Davenport, and Charles Clausen (Denise Chapman) of Glidden; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. Hal was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maxine in 2004, a grandson Eric Clausen, his daughter-in-law Carol Clausen, and a child in infancy.
