Glen Hoyt

Glen Hoyt, age 91, of Jefferson and formerly of Scranton passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at The Gardens in Jefferson.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson with Rev. Gordon Moen officiating.  Music for the service will be by Rick Morain and Gary Haupert.  Casket bearers will be Glen’s grandchildren.  Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson.  Visitation will resume at the church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday and will continue until the time of service.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton and online condolences may be left for Glen’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

Glen Arthur Hoyt was born on July 11, 1927, on a farm southwest of Scranton, Iowa, to William Robert Hoyt and Florence Jennie (Gotter) Hoyt.  Glen was the oldest of eight children and graduated from Scranton Consolidated School in 1945.  On June 15, 1949, he married Beverly Lucille Said and together raised six children on the family farm. Glen was actively involved in farming until 2010.  In 2012, Glen and Beverly ‘moved to town’ and lived on Sunset Road in Jefferson for the next six years.

Over the course of his life, Glen was passionate about supporting the community and served on the Boards of the Scranton Elevator Co-op, Central Iowa Mental Health organization, and Greene County Pork Producers.  Glen was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge, served on various local and district church boards, and valued supporting local businesses.

Glen enjoyed sharing stories about farm life as well as learning about other cultures. Many times, he and Beverly opened their home to host multiple international students and families from diverse backgrounds. In addition, Glen expanded his horizons by being a 60+ year subscriber to National Geographic magazine.

Glen loved spending time with his family, reading, gardening, helping others and having thought-provoking discussions with family & friends, including ‘The Discussion Group.’

Glen is survived by his wife of 69 years, Beverly (Said) Hoyt of Jefferson; six children: Cheryl Nailor of Jefferson; Dennis (Connie) Hoyt of Quincy, IL; Linda (Tim) Lindeen of Dayton, MN; Gary (Melanie) Hoyt of Carlisle; David (Rosemary) Hoyt of Jefferson; Nancy (Kelly) Anderson of Ames; as well as 18 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Roger Nailor.

Glen spent his last days at The Gardens in Jefferson surrounded by family and friends.  The family wishes to send their gratitude for the care received at Greene County Medical Center, UnityPoint Hospice, and The Gardens.  Memorials may be made to The Greene County Medical Center.
