Glen was the oldest of eight children and graduated from Scranton Consolidated School in 1945. On June 15, 1949, he married Beverly Lucille Said and together raised six children on the family farm. Glen was actively involved in farming until 2010. In 2012, Glen and Beverly ‘moved to town’ and lived on Sunset Road in Jefferson for the next six years.
Over the course of his life, Glen was passionate about supporting the community and served on the Boards of the Scranton Elevator Co-op, Central Iowa Mental Health organization, and Greene County Pork Producers. Glen was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge, served on various local and district church boards, and valued supporting local businesses.
Glen enjoyed sharing stories about farm life as well as learning about other cultures. Many times, he and Beverly opened their home to host multiple international students and families from diverse backgrounds. In addition, Glen expanded his horizons by being a 60+ year subscriber to National Geographic magazine.
Glen loved spending time with his family, reading, gardening, helping others and having thought-provoking discussions with family & friends, including ‘The Discussion Group.’
