Gilbert Dean Klindt, age 78, of Carroll passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastors David Anthony and Brian Licht officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll on Wednesday after 5:00 P.M. where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Jan Hoff and soloist will be Marv Toft. Casket bearers will be Mike Pudenz, Dave Nees, Scott Dillehay, Craig Lykke, Roger Anderson, and Duane Anderson. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors by the Carroll American Legion.
Born on January 22, 1932 at Shelby County, Iowa, he was the son of Otto H. and Alma E. (Peters) Klindt. He grew up in the Hancock – Avoca area and graduated from Hancock High School 1949. After high school he farmed with his cousin for two years and was then drafted into the United States Army and served from 1952 – 1954 serving 16 months in Korea. He was married to Patricia A. Lykke on October 21, 1955 at the Lutheran Church in Exira. Gilbert worked at the Avoca Egg Plant from 1954 until he went to work at Earl May Garden Center in Atlantic as assistant manager. The family moved to Carroll in 1967 and Gilbert was promoted to store manager of the Carroll Earl May Store. He retired in 1994. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll, the Carroll American Legion, Carroll Kiwanis, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, going to figure 8 races, feeding and watching birds, spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Surviving are his wife Patricia of Carroll; a daughter Cynthia Klindt of Carroll; a daughter Shirley Jean Pudenz and her husband Neil of Breda; four grandchildren: Jason Watson of Archer, Iowa, Nathan Pudenz and his wife Heidi of Lidderdale, Jenna Watson of Carroll, and Tyler Pudenz and his wife Lindsy of Carroll; four great grandchildren: Cameron, Cassandra, Cristian, and McKenzie; and a brother-in-law Clarence Summers and his wife Norma of Atlantic, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bernard in infancy, a sister Eleanor Staub and her husband Eugene.
