Gidvert S. Goodmanson, "Goodie" died January 8, 2010, at the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 12, 1010 at the United Methodist Church in Glidden with Rev. Jessica Rockhold Gaul officiating. Music for the service will be by Mrs. Mary Ross. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 4:00 P.M. on Monday where there will be a Masonic Memorial Service at 6:30 P.M. followed by a prayer service. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden with military honors by the Merle Hay Post of the American Legion.Casket Bearers will be his Grandsons:David Grimm, Douglas Grimm, Alex Thomson, Jacob Swogger, Daniel Grimm and Andrew Grimm. Honorary Casket Bearers are Granddaughters:
Andrea Conner,Kathryn Swogger, Celeste Grimm, Mariel Grimm and Heidi Felix.
Gidvert Severene Goodmanson III, known to most as Goodie, age 90, of Glidden, Iowa died at the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa on January 8, 2010, where he lived for the past 5 years. Goodie retired in 1977 after working as a Railroad Dispatcher for the Chicago Northwestern railroad for 23.
He was born on December 12, 1919, at Plover, Iowa, and was the son of Gidvert Severene II and Hattie Mae (Cobb) Goodmanson. Goodie attended and graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1940 and married Elinor Vaughan on January 12, 1945, at the Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the 843rd Engineer Aviation Battalion with the Army. He had lived in Glidden for 65 years. Goodie was a member of the Glidden United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Haggai Masonic Lodge, a volunteer fireman with the Glidden Fire Dept., and a longtime official and timer for Glidden Ralston athletics. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, woodworking, fishing, playing cards and watching sports on TV – especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. He truly loved life and those with whom he came in contact.
Surviving are his two daughters and their husbands: Jane Grimm and her husband Roger of St. Paul, Minnesota, Barbe Conner and her husband Rod of Glidden Iowa; six grandchildren: David Grimm, Douglas Grimm and his wife Celeste, Andrea Conner and her husband Alex Thompson, Kathryn Swogger and her husband Jacob, Daniel Grimm and his fiancee Heidi Féliz and Andrew Grimm and his wife Mariel; three great-grandchildren: Severene Grimm, Friedrich and Sofia Grimm. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elinor and two brothers Milo and Lewis.
