Gerald “Jerry” M. Wittrock, age 78, of Carroll and formerly of Arcadia, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday March 19, 2012 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia with Father Richard Remmes as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a Christian Wake service at 7:00 P.M.. Interment will be in St John’s Catholic Cemetery in Arcadia. The Ehlers Gerken Post of the American Legion will form and honor guard at the Church and will conduct Military Honors at the Grave. Organist for the Mass will be Darlene Leiting and the St. John’s choir will sing. Lector will be Pat Vogl, gift bearers will be Merlin Wittrock and Ralph Lampman. Mass servers will be Jason Berg and Travis Freese. Eucharistic Ministers will be Pat Vogl, Jerome Henkenius, and Peg Scheidt. Casket Bearers will be Roger Liechti, Gene Liechti, John Liechti, Steve Hausman, John Hausman, and Brian Hausman.
Born on July 27, 1933 at Carroll, Iowa, Jerry was the son of Charles and Frances (Roth) Wittrock. He grew up in the Roselle area and attended Holy Angels School in Roselle graduating in 1948. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. He was married to Bernice Lampman on Sept 12, 1959 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia by Rev. C.A. Ahmann. Jerry was employed by the Arcadia Elevator and had worked for several area farmers in his younger years. He was then employed by the Carroll County Secondary Road Dept where he worked for 32 years retiring in 1995. He was a former member of Arcadia City Council, he belong to St. John Catholic Church, and was an active member of the Ehlers Gerken Post # 694 of the American Legion where he served on the board and was in charge of the Color Guard for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed guns, hunting, and watching westerns on TV. The Wittrocks lived in Arcadia for 51 year until moving to Westwood Knolls in the fall of 2010 and Jerry entered the Carroll Health center in November of 2011.
Surviving are his wife Bernice of Carroll; three sons: Dan and his wife Deb, David and his wife Angela, and Dale and his wife Beth all of Arcadia; eight grandchildren: Chad and his wife Shawne, Cory and his wife Erin, Sammi, Ethan, Jordan, Noah, Jacob, and Katelyn; one great granddaughter Annalee; four brothers: Clarence Wittrock and his wife Catherine of Carroll, Charles Wittrock of Carroll, Merlin Wittrock of Carroll, and Ronald Wittrock and his wife Jeanette of Anita, Iowa; three sisters: Dorothy Berger of Lohrville, Iowa; Marjorie Steinkamp and her husband Ed of Wall Lake, Iowa; and Velma Tigges of Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father Charles and Frances, brother Alfred Wittrock, his parents-in-law Edward and Viola Lampman, and two brothers-in-law: Walt Tigges and Alvin Berger.
