Gerald Milo Ott, age 91, of Carroll, IA, and formerly of Jefferson, IA, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, February 5, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Ryan Roehrig officiating. Music will be by Abe Batten. Casket bearers will be Allison Deluhery, Alex Carlson, Ryan Hanson, Eric Carlson, Doug Ott, and Mark Ott. Burial will be in the Jefferson Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 2-4 P.M. on Sunday afternoon with a prayer service held at 4:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the St. Paul Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the service.

Gerald was born on June 10, 1932 in rural Guthrie Center, IA, and was the son of Clarence and Ila (Smith) Ott. He attended school in Lake City, IA, and graduated with the High School Class of 1950. On February 20, 1952, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his tour of duty, he served in the Korean Conflict as a medic and was honorably discharged on February 3, 1954 with the rank of Corporal.
On June 5, 1955 he was united in marriage to Darlene Buse at Peace Lutheran Church near Ulmer, IA. The couple lived in Norfolk, NE, for two years while he attended Norfolk Junior College receiving his associate degree in accounting. In 1957, they made their home in Jefferson, IA, where they raised their three daughters and Gerald was employed by National Manufacturing and Stamping Company in Jefferson as an accountant. In 1959, he was promoted to office manager and corporate secretary. In 1967, he received a promotion to vice president and director of the corporation. He purchased an interest in Ideal Stock Tank Company from 1984 until 1993. Gerald was then employed for Copeland Insurance Agency in Jefferson as an accountant until he retired in 2009. Gerald and Darlene moved to Carroll in 2008 where they built a new home. Darlene passed away on March 6, 2018.
Gerald was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson and a current member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. A master carpenter at heart, woodworking was his passion and he made several items for his family and friends. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring old classic cars and dabbling in stained glass work.
Gerald is survived by his three daughters: Carolyn (Junior) Hanson of Atlantic, IA, LuAnn Carlson of Coon Rapids, IA, and Lisa Ott of Urbandale, IA; four grandchildren: Allison Deluhery of Des Moines, IA, Alex (Megan) Carlson of Coon Rapids, IA, Ryan (Brooke) Hanson of Villisca, IA, and Eric (Amanda) Carlson of Jefferson, IA; nine great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Gage, Cam, Gretah, Hudson, Huxley, Henry, Rylann, and Lyla; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gerald is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Ott; parents, Clarence and Ila Ott; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, John and Rosa Buse.
