Gerald “Jerry” Albert Wernimont Sr., age 71, of Arcadia, Iowa, passed away at St. Anthony Regional Hospital on Friday, December 10, 2010.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Fr. Joseph Dillinger of St. John Catholic Church in Arcadia officiating. Organist for the service will be Ellen Severin. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Monday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7:00 P.M.. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Tom Wempe, Andy Wempe, Eric Wiese, Donovan Kennebeck, Dean Wernimont, and Bill Reetz.
Born on April 17, 1939 at Breda, Iowa, he was the son of Albert and Rosalia (Baumhover) Wernimont. Jerry grew up in Breda and attended St. Bernard’s School. After school he was a heavy equipment operator and a truck driver until retiring in 1998. He was married to Jo Ann Reetz on November 23, 1960 at St. Lawrence Rectory in Carroll. The couple lived and raised their five children in Arcadia. In his spare time Jerry enjoyed woodworking, golf, playing cards, and his dog Sparky.
Surviving are his wife Jo Ann Wernimont of Arcadia; four daughters: Rhonda Wempe and her husband Joe of Breda, Deb Kennebeck and her husband Danny of Lytton, Pam Wiese and her husband Paul of Arcadia, and Renee Wernimont of Carroll; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; six sisters: Phyllis Hinners and her husband Larryof Carroll, Bev Kruger and her husband Melvin of Churdan, Cheryl Adams and husband John of Geneseo, Illinois, Patricia Wernimont and her friend Sue Bailey of Omaha, Nancy Pudenz and her husband Jeff of Breda, and Lori Walters and her husband Craig of Papillion, Nebraska; and four brothers: Merle Wernimont and his wife Linda of Carroll, Roger Wernimont and his wife Cheryl of Carroll, Dale Wernimont and his wife Rosie of Breda, and Alan Wernimont and his wife Sheryl of Carroll; three brothers-in-law: Leonard Reetz and his wife Merilee of Arcadia, Gaylon Reetz and his wife Darlene of Deloit, Iowa, and Dennis Reetz and his wife Dianna of Carroll; a brother-in law Ralph Fischer of College Station, Texas; a sister-in-law Mary Kay Wernimont of Carroll; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jerry was preceded in death by parents, a son Gerald “Jay” Wernimont in 1997, two brothers: Ron and Marvin, and a sister Jean Fischer.
