George E. Bowman, age 93, of Coon Rapids passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a Masonic Memorial Service held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Lula Garnes and soloist will be Cindy Seastrom. Casket bearers will be George’s grandchildren. Burial will be in Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on February 6, 1922 on his family’s farm north east of Coon Rapids, he was the son of Charles and Vera (Riedesel) Bowman. He was raised on the farm where he was born and attended country school as a boy and the Carrollton School until 10th grade. He graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1940. Following high school he attended a trade school in Chicago for welding. He was married to Marguerite Bower on April 8, 1942 at the Methodist Parsonage in Carroll. The couple made their home on his family’s farm where they raised their children. He was a member of the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church and Signet Masonic Lodge #264 A.F and A.M. Farming was George’s life and his passion. He was very proud of the hay racks he made for his family, at age 91, to ride on in the Coon Rapids Sesquicentennial Parade. He also enjoyed collecting tractors and toy tractors, and playing cards, pool, and shuffleboard. George and Marguerite spent many winters in Holiday, Florida. George loved spending time with his family and many good friends. George is survived by two daughters: Annette Halbur and her husband Troy of West Des Moines and Jeanine Mowrey and her husband Greg of West Des Moines; two sons: Gary Bowman and his wife Sharon of Carroll and Ron Bowman and his wife Nancy of Coon Rapids; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Darlene Bowman of Coon Rapids and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marguerite in 2006, two brothers: Gerald and Robert and a great grandson Carson.
