Garry Dean Wright, age 70, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2010 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:00 A.M. to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Larry Feltner, Paul McGowan, Jeff Booher, and Larry Hinners. Military honors will be given at the church by the Carroll American Legion. Burial will be in the Moville Cemetery. Born on April 18, 1940 at Sioux City, Iowa, he was the son of Clare and Minnie (Jacobsen) Wright. He grew up in Moville, Iowa, and graduated from Woodbury Central High School in 1957. After high school he worked for his uncle at Wright’s Hardware in Moville. He later enlisted in the Iowa National Guard out of Sioux City and served four years. He was married to Barbara Singer on September 16, 1967 at Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill, Iowa. The couple lived in Sioux City for several years before moving to Colorado Springs with the National Guard. He attended college while living in Colorado Springs. They later moved to Des Moines, Ankeny, and to Carroll in 1975 where he was employed by Phillip Morris as a manager. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carroll. In his spare time Garry enjoyed sports, reading, animals, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife Barbara of Carroll; a son Mark Wright and his wife Jen of Cave Creek, Arizona; a daughter Amy Booher and her husband Jeff of Carroll; six grandchildren: Faith, Kyle, Jasmine, Claire, Kylar, and McKenize; and a brother Farrell Wright and his wife Collette of Moville. He was preceded in death by his parents.
