Freda Alice Citurs, age 81, of Jefferson, Iowa, and formerly of Scranton, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the Scranton United Methodist Church with Rev. Julie of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Friday evening. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Karen Murphy. Casket bearers will be David Tilley, Dennis Tilley, Joe Tilley, Greg Schuttler, Arnel Citurs, Honorary casket bearers will be Ray Collins, Denton Wenger, Don Wiedrein, Don Egan, Alan Johnson, Neil Johnson, and Duane Wright . Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery. Born on July 7, 1930 at Churdan, Iowa, she was the daughter of Joseph and Aleene (Creighton) Tilley. She grew up in Churdan and graduated from Churdan High School in 1947. She was married to Karl Citurs on March 18, 1956 at the Churdan United Methodist Church. Following high school she worked at the Greene County Extension Service and Farmer’s Home Administration for nine years. She then worked for West Central Coop for several years. Freda began farming with her husband Karl in the late 1960’s and was actively involved in their farming operation until 1998. She was a member of the the First United Methodist Church in Scranton where she was active in the UMW and she taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Varcei Club in Scranton. Freda enjoyed spending the winters in Lake Havasu Arizona, gardening, cooking, golfing, card club, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband Karl of Jefferson; two sons: Kevin Citurs and his wife Randi of St. Louis, Missouri, and Kirk Citurs and his wife Debi of Scranton; two granddaughters: Kallen and Paige Citurs of Scranton; a sister Bernice Schuttler of Grand Junction, Iowa; three sisters-in-law Ruby Harman of Northwood, Iowa, Jean Tilley of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Janiece Tilley of Churdan; and a brother-in-law Earl Citurs of Northwood, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, a son Kent Bradley 1981, five brothers: Dale, Bill, Earl, Virgil, and Raymond, and two brothers in infancy.
