Fred J. Satterlee, age 77, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Carroll First Assembly of God Church with Pastor David Schaal officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Monday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Monday to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be grandsons: Todd Andersen, Aaron Steffens, Ryan Satterlee, Mike Mohr, Jason Harsin, and Nick Satterlee. Honorary casket bearers will be grandchildren: Richie Andersen, Ben Coyne, Stephan Satterlee, Julie Steffens, Amy Mohr, Amanda Coyne, Amber Mohr, and Freddie’s friends from Mid-American Energy.
Born on July 29, 1932 at Denison, Iowa, he was the son of Fred and Leona Satterlee. He grew up in Denison where he graduated from Denison High School. He was married to Frances Schirmbeck on December 3, 1966 at Omaha, Nebraska. He served in the National Guard from 1949 – 1958. Fred worked for IPS/Mid-American Energy for 40 years. After retirement he worked part time for Drees Plumbing and Heating and did custodian work at Carroll First Assembly of God Church where he was also a member. Freddie, as he was known to most, loved woodworking, yard work, and being with his family.
Surviving are his wife Fran of Carroll; a daughter Deanna Andersen and her husband Dick of Elkhorn, Iowa; a son Randy Satterlee of Defiance, Iowa; a son Brett Satterlee and his wife Michelle of Omaha; a daughter Debbie Mohr and her husband Ron of Carroll; a daughter Bobbi Jo Roberts and her husband Ken of Carroll; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; his mother-in-law Alice Miller of Carroll; a sister Dorothy Satterlee of Jefferson; a brother-in-law Larry Schirmbeck and his wife Virginia of Baltimore, Maryland; a brother-in-law Lonnie Schirmbeck and his wife Linda of Omaha; a brother-in-law Delbert Cox and his wife Debbie of Marshall, Minnesota; a brother-in-law Leo Cox of Madison, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law Pam Hamilton and her husband Alex of Jefferson; a brother-in-law Nick Schirmbeck and his special friend Marci of Jefferson; a brother-in-law Marty Miller and his wife Shelly of Omaha; a sister-in-law Elaine Garnett and her husband Roger of Jefferson; and a brother-in-law Dennis Blum and his wife Gail of Jefferson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Freeman, a granddaughter Kimberly Harsin, a grandson Joseph Satterlee and his father-in-law Aldoph Schirmbeck and his wife Laverne.
