Fred Junior Ayers, age 90, of Glidden, IA, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at his home.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden. Burial will be at a later date in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden with full military honors by the Glidden American Legion. A luncheon will be held at the Glidden American Legion following the visitation.

Fred was born November 15, 1933 in Guthrie County, IA, and was the son of Fred Elwin and Marguerette Grace (Peardon) Ayers. He attended school in Bayard, IA. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States AirForce and during his tour of duty he was stationed in California until he was honorably discharged in 1952. On October 6, 1953 he was united in marriage to Mary Harriette Freeman. They were blessed with 4 children. The couple moved to Des Moines, IA where he was employed with Lenox Manufacturing for a few years. They made Glidden home and Fred farmed for many years raising row crops and livestock including cattle and hogs. He also drove trucks over the road until he retired. During retirement, he helped several area farmers until just a few years ago. Mary passed away August 13, 2006. Fred was a member of the Glidden American Legion. During his spare time, he enjoyed working on small engines and building minibikes for his grandchildren to ride and loved to go fishing.
Fred is survived by his daughter Pam Vanscoy-Ayers of Adel, IA; son Mike Ayers of Harrison, AR; son-in-law Jerry Perkins of Perry, IA; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; his brother and sisters: Denny (Helen) Ayers of Bayard, IA, Barb (Dave) Kalsen of Cambridge, IA, and Linda (Steve) Allen of BeeBe Town, AR; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Harriette Ayers; daughters, Sherry Ann (Tom) Booth, and Joyce Diane Perkins; daughters-in-law, Roxie Ann Ayers and Julie Ayers; and his brothers and sisters.
