Franklin J. Thiesfeld, age 89, of Glidden, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa.
Frank, son of John and Hattie (Gast) Thiesfeld, was born December 7, 1924, Peotone, Illinois. He grew up at Peotone, where he attended school.
During World War II, Frank was drafted and served with the U.S. Army as an Infantryman in the Philippines and Japan. At the conclusion of the war he was discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant.
He returned to Peotone. He worked as a draftsman, eventually working as a structural engineer in Illinois, Tennessee and New Jersey. His wife Charlotte passed away in 2004, and later that year, he moved to Iowa and settled in Glidden.
Frank enjoyed woodworking, reading, cooking, gardening, and entertaining friends.
Survivors include: two sons Jeffrey Thiesfeld of Peotone, Illinois and Stephen Thiesfeld of Iselin, New Jersey; two sisters: Ruth Broderick of Florida and Eleanor Andres of Monee, Illinois; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Verlin Thiesfeld.
According to Franklin’s wishes no services will be held.
