Frances L. Scott

Frances Louise Scott, age 94, of Coon Rapids and formerly of Carroll passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Chaplain Angelo Luis of St. Anthony Regional Hospital officiating.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home from 5 – 7 P.M. on Thursday evening.  Visitation will resume at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. on Friday until the time of service.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at dahnandwoodhouse.com. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home for a later designation.

Frances was born on October 2, 1924, to Cyrus and Kathryn (Hillyer) Buckner on the family farm.  She grew up on the farm and graduated from Audubon High School in 1942.  She became an elementary teacher at a country school in Melville Township for two years, walking two miles to and from school each day, carrying her supplies and water for her students.  Weather was her greatest challenge.

She married  Darrell Scott on August 23, 1946 in Atlantic, IA.  The couple made their home on the Buckner family farm in Melville Township, Audubon County.  In 1953 they purchased the Scott family farm in Viola Township, south of Dedham, where they raised their five children.  Frances was a devoted farm wife and created a nurturing home life providing love, encouragement and support for all.

Her family will remember her for her willingness to pass her wisdom and expertise to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They truly brought her joy.

Frances is survived by her five children and their families: Nancy Duey (Phil) of Adel, Kathie Davis of Clive, Mary Scott-Hall of Ames, Paul Scott (Janice) of Coon Rapids, and Lisa Ellis (Wayne) of Urbandale; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband Darrell in 2000; her parents Cyrus and Kathryn Buckner; her mother and father-in-law George Clifford and Anna Scott; two sisters: Elizabeth Eloise and Lucy Lorene Keith; two brothers: George Frank Buckner and Louis Brooks Buckner.
